Jobless claims fall 5.8%

The number of U.S. initial claims for unemployment insurance for the week ended Dec. 19 fell by 28,000, or 5.8%, to 452,000 from the previous week's number of 480,000, the U.S. Department of Labor reported Thursday.

The four-week moving average of claims for the week ended Dec. 19 fell by 2,750, or 0.6%, to 465,250 from the previous week's revised average of 468,000.
