The number of U.S. initial claims for unemployment benefits fell 3.0% to 654,000 in the week ended April 4 from the previous week's revised number of 674,000, the U.S. Department of Labor reported today. The four-week moving average of claims fell 0.1% to 657,250 from the previous week's revised average of 658,000.
