Jobless claims edge down by 4,000

The number of U.S. initial claims for unemployment insurance fell by 4,000, or 0.7%, to 570,000 in the week ended Aug. 29 from the previous week's revised number of 574,000, the U.S. Department of Labor reported today.

The four-week moving average of claims, however, rose by 0.7%, or 4,000, to 571,250 from the previous week's revised average of 567,250.
