Jobless claims down by 20,000

The number of U.S. initial claims for unemployment insurance fell by 20,000, or 3.8%, to 512,000 in the week ended Oct. 31 from the previous week's revised figure of 532,000, the U.S. Department of Labor reported today.

The four-week moving average of claims for the week ended Oct. 30 fell by 3,000, or 0.6%, to 523,750 from the previous week's revised average of 526,750.
