Jobless claims average down 6,250

March 13, 2014

The U.S. four-week moving average of initial claims for unemployment insurance fell by 6,250 in the week ended March 8 to 330,500 from the previous week’s revised figure of 336,750, according to seasonally adjusted numbers released today by the U.S. Department of Labor.

The four-week moving average decreases the volatility of the weekly numbers. Total initial claims for unemployment insurance for the week fell by 9,000 to a total of 315,000 from the previous week’s revised figure of 324,000.

Bloomberg reports it is the lowest level since the end of November, a sign of further improvement in the labor market.
