Jobless Claims Average Falls by 750

June 28, 2012

The four-week moving average of initial unemployment claims rose to 386,750 in the week ended June 23, a decrease of 750 from the previous week’s revised average of 387,500, according to seasonally adjusted numbers released today by the U.S. Department of Labor.

The four-week moving average reduces the volatility of the weekly numbers. Total initial claims were 386,000, a decrease of 6,000 from the previous week’s revised figure of 392,000.

Bloomberg reported that jobless claims fell in line with the median forecast of economists and that the four-week average hovered near its highest total of 2012.
