Jobless Claims Average Falls by 1,500

July 05, 2012

The four-week moving average of initial unemployment claims fell to 385,750 in the week ended June 30, a decrease of 1,500 from the previous week’s revised average of 387,250, according to seasonally adjusted numbers released today by the U.S. Department of Labor.

The four-week moving average reduces the volatility of the weekly numbers. Total initial claims were 374,000, a decrease of 14,000 from the previous week’s revised figure of 388,000.

Bloomberg reported that there were fewer jobless claims filed than economists forecast.
