Job seekers’ confidence index rises for tech, engineering sectors

May 28, 2014

Job seekers’ overall confidence in finding new employment slipped in April but increased among job seekers in the technology and engineering sectors, according to the job search confidence index released today by StartWire, an Internet job site.

The index now stands at a reading of 50.63, down from 53.69 in March. The index sits on a scale of 0 to 100. Scores greater than 50 indicate a strong belief among job seekers they will find a job within the next 45 days, and a score below 50 indicates the opposite. The index has been in positive territory for the past three months, according to StartWire.

Looking specifically at the technology/engineering sector, the index rose to 51.2 in April from 49.08 in in March.

“The increasing April confidence index numbers for technology professionals are reflective of growth in hiring trends, driven by a vibrant and expanding tech sector of both start-up companies and growing enterprises across the U.S.,” said StartWire CEO Chris Forman.
