Job openings relatively flat

The number of job openings in July was little changed from June, according to seasonally adjusted numbers released today by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. The job openings rate — a measure of job openings compared with total employment — edged down only 0.2 percent.

The number of hires rose 2.3 percent from June to 4.4 million, and the number of separations fell 2.8 percent to approximately 4.1 million.
