The number of U.S. job openings dropped by approximately 992,000 year over year in October to almost 3.1 million, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported today. There were more than 4.0 million job openings in October 2007.
The job openings rate was 2.2% in October compared with 2.8% in the same period a year ago.
The number of hires fell by approximately 852,000 year over year in October to almost 4.1 million, according to the BLS. The hires rate was 3.0% in October, down from 3.6% in October 2007.
Separations fell by 360,000 year over year in October to 4.2 million. The separations rate was 3.1% in October compared with 3.3% in the same period a year ago.
