Italy – Staffing Industry Analysts and staffing industry experts speak at Ciett conference

28 May 2015

Labour market experts from across the globe are meeting in Rome this week at the Ciett World Employment Conference, the annual gathering of global employment specialists, industry representatives, and stakeholders.

These labour market experts have urged governments around the world to swiftly introduce labour market reforms in order to kick-start their economies. Experts have highlighted the importance of an agile and adaptable labour market in stimulating economic growth and job creation.  This means removing old-fashioned rigidity and unjustified restrictions concerning legitimate flexible forms of labour.

The conference, organised by Ciett’s Italian member federation Assolavoro, is entitled “A triple win: mobility, inclusion and competitiveness - The three gains from the employment & recruitment industry”.

In addition to Staffing Industry Analysts’ Executive Director, Global Research John Nurthen and  Operations Development Specialist, Francesca Vassallo-Todaro, attendees will hear from a variety of speakers.

Italian employment minister Giuliano Poletti; OECD Director for Employment Stefano Scarpetta, and Peter Hartz, who developed the famous Hartz-reforms of the German labour market in 2003-2004 are, in addition to many others, scheduled to speak at the conference.

Annemarie Muntz, President of Ciett, commented: “Governments around the world should acknowledge the need for a diversity of labour contracts in the labour market of today and tomorrow. We should abandon the preoccupation with specific types of contracts, and instead focus on how we can enhance the position of workers on the labour market, while supporting the needs of employers. Allowing a mixture of employment types to exist will contribute to growth and competitiveness in today’s volatile markets.”

Observers see seismic shifts ahead for labour markets around the world as the northern hemisphere with its highly developed economies but ageing populations, must reconcile itself with a southern hemisphere often characterised by emerging markets and young, dynamic population growth.

“We are witnessing job creation and job displacement on an unprecedented scale with 50% of jobs and the workforce churning every two years,” said Hans Leentjes, Ciett Vice-President. “The title of this conference is significant - “a triple win”. We are here to emphasise the benefits of the triangular relationship between the worker, the client company, and the agency.”

“As the employer or service provider, the agency holds a unique insight into the labour market that benefits all parties – which skills are in demand and available, which employers are hiring, and how and where workers want to work. In order to meet the needs of business and provide people with opportunities to work and develop their skills, our industry plays a critical role as a trusted labour market advisor in an ever-changing employment landscape,” he added.

“We are honoured to host here in Rome this important meeting in which Assolavoro will play a key role in the discussion of issues that are crucial for the private agency work such as mobility, inclusion and competitiveness” said Stefano Scabbio, President of Assolavoro. "Italy, with its current labour market reforms, represents a model at international level. We will discuss this during our three days Conference, with the aim of sharing good practices and paving the way for the future of work from private agencies’ point of view."
