International, direct hire boost Robert Half

Second-quarter revenue rose 6.6% at Robert Half International Inc. (NYSE: RHI) to $1.22 billion. Chairman and CEO Harold Messmer said international operations helped fuel growth and the company's direct hire operations had a particularly strong quarter.

Robert Half posted second-quarter direct hire revenue of $127.9 million, an 11.2% increase over the same period last year. Its temporary consulting and staffing revenue rose 4.1% to $349.2 million.

Second-quarter net income rose 2.5% to $74.6 million from $72.7 million in the second quarter of 2007.

Gross margin, however, edged down to 42.2% from 42.9%.

Second-quarter revenue increased year-over-year in all the firm's subsidiaries: Accountemps, up 6.3% to $459.2 million; OfficeTeam, up 1.5% to $218.9 million; Robert Half Technology, up 7.0% to $112.6 million; Robert Half Management Resources, up 9.2% to $165.0 million; Robert Half Finance and Accounting, up 11.2% to $127.9 million; and Protiviti, up 8.3% to $141.1 million.
