India – RPO taking off

31 March 2015

Recruitment process outsourcing (RPO); where service providers handle all, or part of, the recruitment process, is taking off in India, reports mydigitalfc.com.

Moorthy K Uppaluri, Chief Executive Officer of Randstad India, commented: “RPO has been adopted by [multi-national corporations] and Indian companies for their hiring process, since this model, backed by technology, aids a cost-effective and consistent talent acquisition process.”

“Organisations can scale up quickly when the business environment improves and can save 70% of their time by outsourcing the HR process and use it for addressing core strategic issues to improve organisational efficiency and productivity.”

“This model also allows organisations to effectively measure their hiring metrics. Depending on the requirements of an organisation, there can be four different flavours to RPO like ‘Recruiter On-Demand,’ ‘Process RPO,’ ‘Project RPO’, and ‘End-to-End RPO.’ In India, RPO is popular in sectors like [Banking, Financial Service, and Insurance], Life Sciences & Pharmaceutical, Hi-Tech, and Telecommunications," he added.

“Fast-growing organisations that also hire in bulk have been seen to move towards RPO. Even though recruitment firms have been performing some forms of RPO for some years now, it has started to become a trend and has acquired a name only recently,” said Saundarya Rajesh, founder of Indian talent strategy consulting firm AVTAR Career Creators.

“For example, when we launched our company in 2000, we took up the entire hiring process for a multinational company, which was starting its operations in Chennai. We did the process end-to-end but it was not called RPO then. Only now has it gained a name because it is becoming more prevalent,” she added.
