05 February 2016

Online hiring activity in India jumped by 52% in January compared to the previous year, according to the latest Monster Employment Index India.

The Monster Employment Index stood at 229 in January, compared to the previous year when the index stood at 151.

“The year has started off on an optimistic note with notable growth in the key sectors. Additionally, it is good to see that apart from the traditional sectors like IT and BFSI, we have seen a steady growth in the non-conventional sectors such as media & entertainment,” Sanjay Modi, Managing Director of Monster in India, Middle East, South East Asia and Hong Kong, said.

According to the Index, 2016 is expected to bring in further revival in the job market.

“With the Union Budget nearing, we look forward to a more conducive policy framework to revive investment, increase growth with a pragmatic recognition of the macro-economic woes and a thrust towards structural reforms,” Sanjay said.

As far as recruitment activity is concerned, all sectors showed improvement and exceeded last year’s numbers in 25 of the 27 industry sectors monitored by the Index.

Within the IT sector, hardware and software was up by 77%, showing the sharpest annual growth among industry sectors. E-commerce showed a 23% annual growth rate, while the Government/ PSU/ Defence sector charts the steepest year-on-year decline in online recruitment activity.

Senior management professionals registered the sharpest growth in demand from one year ago at 81%. For the period between December 2015 and January 2016, growth was 33%.

Moreover, online demand was up in all 13 cities monitored by the Index, compared to the previous year.
