India – Government’s focus on jobs positively impacting jobs market

20 November 2014

Online recruitment across India increased by +16% in October, compared with the same month last year, according to the Monster Employment Index.

The employment index for October 2014 was 144, down from 153 in September 2014, but up strongly compared with an index of 124 during October 2013. The Monster Employment Index was launched in May 2010 with a base index of 100 points.

The Index is a monthly gauge of online job posting activity based on a real-time review of employer job opportunities culled from a large representative selection of career websites and online job listings across India. The Index does not reflect the trend of any one advertiser or source, but is an aggregate measure of the change in job listings across the industry.

Sanjay Modi, Managing Director of Monster in India, the Middle East, Hong Kong, and Southeast Asia, commented: “The government’s increased thrust on investment; clearance of infrastructure and defence projects, combined with some strong policy decision has definitely improved the overall business confidence. This in turn has generated hope in the jobs market.”

“We have been witnessing a constant positive annual growth in the Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) and Information Technology enables-Services (ITeS) sectors and Bangalore still holds the position of the leading employment generating [city] in the country with [+35% growth]. The government’s continued focus on job creation in India gives a sense of an improving job market scenario in coming months,” he added.
