View All NewsIndia – E-commerce temporary jobs to treble in Q4 compared with last year
The rapidly growing Indian e-commerce industry is expected to create 100,000 temporary jobs in the fourth quarter ending 31 December 2014, compared with 30,000 last year, reports The Economic Times of India.
There has also been an increase of up-to +100% in the salaries of temporary workers in certain entry-level roles in this sector compared with last year.
Staffing companies expect that over the next three years, the hiring of temporary workers will grow at a steady +60%. With between 70% and 80% of annual sales taking place in the weekends or in the festive season, e-commerce companies rely greatly on temporary staffing.
"As the volumes of these companies grow, the temporary staffing numbers are expected to grow in tandem," said AG Rao CEO of ManpowerGroup India.
According to the India Staffing Federation, the number of temporary jobs added last year in the same quarter was at around 30,000.
Staffing companies such as ManpowerGroup, Teamlease, Ranstad, Kelly Services, and Global Innovsource are all cheering this trend as they are among the first to benefit.
Flipkart, Jabong, Amazon, Snapdeal, and Caratlane are among some of the e-commerce firms hiring temporary staff, according to Suchita Dutta, Executive Director of the Indian Staffing Federation.
The companies are predominately looking to hire temporary workers for delivery, warehouse, online marketing, and customer services roles.
"The salary offered to field staffers is at around INR 15,000 (USD 245) [per month]. A project based back-end staff's salary is up to INR 50,000 (USD 818), while temporary staffers in functions like HR, finance and IT (all at junior levels) earn about INR 55,000 (USD 899). The salaries across all these functions at the junior level have moved north by up to +100% when compared to the beginning of calendar 2013," Ms Dutta added.
