India – Demand for talent up during Modi government’s first year

02 June 2015

Demand for talent across India increased by 2% between May 2014 and May 2015; the first year of the new National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, according to job board TimesJobs.

This compares with no change in the demand for talent between May 2013 and May 2014; the final year of the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government.

As Mr Modi’s government completes its first year in power, his push to transform India into a global manufacturing hub seems to have revived the otherwise dull hiring sentiments in the manufacturing sector.

According to RecruiteX, a subsidiary of TimesJobs, there has been a noticeable impact on job creation in the automobile, auto ancillaries, auto components, consumer durables, Fast-Moving-Consumer-Goods, core manufacturing & engineering sectors.

Vivek Madhukar, COO of TimesJobs, commented: “After May 2014, overall hiring activity across key sectors has revived including the big employers of the manufacturing and IT Sectors. With the government’s increased focus on digitizing India and the creation of Smart Cities, demand for technology professionals witnessed growth not just in core technology but also in manufacturing and allied sectors. This trend is likely to accelerate as companies adopt new technologies at a faster pace.”

Comparison of demand for talent between May 2013 and May 2014 under the previous administration and between May 2014 and May 2015 under the Modi government:
