India – Campus IT Recruitment War

02 September 2015

Cognizant Technology Solution (CTS) has apparently complained to National Association of Software and Services Companies (Nasscom) about a breach of the guidelines for the IT industry stipulating that campus recruitment must begin in September.  The company, according to The Hindu, claims that Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) started its campus recruitment in colleges across Tamil Nadu a week earlier.

Students from engineering colleges across Tamil Nadu are much sought-after by top IT firms in India. Reports suggest that at least 50% of the HR requirement for the IT and ITES industry is filled from this state. Cognizant Technology Solutions, Infosys and TCS are the three largest  IT services provider by revenue, according to global technology research and advisory company Gartner.

The Nasscom President, R Chandrasekar, told The Hindu that some cases of IT companies not adhering to the campus recruitment norm have come to their notice and they have issued an advisory to them.

Some HR managers say that TCS is likely to have started campus recruitment earlier, to employ the cream of students. In some colleges, TCS has the 'exclusive day one' but many top colleges in Tamil Nadu now have a 'shared-seat model'. Meanwhile, TCS has stated that it was doing what it had done in the past, according to the newspaper.
