India — 88% would leave startups for established companies

25 November 2015

Among Indian professionals working in startups, 88% said they would leave their jobs for larger, more established companies, according to a survey by job board TimesJobs.com.

The survey included more than 750 professionals at startups across Delhi, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Mumbai and other startup hotbeds.

“Today’s talent is no longer lured by just fat paychecks”, said Vivek Madhukar, COO of TimesJobs.com. “They are looking at long-term career growth and are careful when choosing their employers. The recent spate of retrenchments have deeply affected the very important and high-engagement sense of ownership and belonging that young professionals felt when they joined these start-ups”.

The survey also asked why they would leave their jobs at startups, and 43% said they felt they would be able to draw a higher salary at an established company. In addition, 30% said due to the nature of their jobs at startups, there were unable to maintain a work-life balance. Only 15% said they wanted a change for greater job security.
