An index of small businesses by Intuit Inc. found they added 65,000 new jobs in March. In addition, the index found average monthly pay for all small business employees rose by 0.7 percent to $2,785 in March, slightly more than the February revised estimate of $2,767 a month.

The index also found small business hourly employees worked an average of 111.9 hours in March, up from the revised figure of 111.3 hours in February.

The index is based on aggregate and anonymous online employment data from approximately 77,000 businesses with fewer than 20 employees that use Intuit Online Payroll.
