Index: Economy to be 'resilient' in months ahead

April 02, 2010

An improvement in the U.S. economy will continue through the months ahead, according to the Economic Cycle Research Institute, which produces a weekly leading index.

"With the [weekly leading index] holding near January's all-time high, the ongoing U.S. economic revival will prove resilient in the months ahead," said Lakshman Achuthan, managing director of the institute.

In the weekly period ending March 26, the weekly leading index level rose to 131.9 from the prior period's reading of 131.4. The index's growth rate rose to 13.9% from 13.8% in the prior period.

The growth rate is derived from a four-week average of the level that is compared against the previous year's average.
