Idaho, South Dakota post lowest jobless rates

Idaho and South Dakota registered the lowest jobless rates among all states in December, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported today. The two posted unemployment rates of 3.0% each.

Michigan again experienced the highest unemployment rate among states at 7.6% in December. It was followed by Mississippi at 6.8% and South Carolina at 6.6%.

Nebraska posted the largest month-over-month increase in employment, up 0.7%. Kansas registered the largest month-over-month decrease in employment, down 0.4%.

Year-over-year, 36 states registered increases in their unemployment rates in December, 12 states and the District of Columbia posted decreases, and two states were unchanged.
