IT jobs up 0.3% in September, engineering job growth ‘anemic’

October 07, 2015

The number of IT jobs in the US rose 0.3% in September from August, according to the TechServe Alliance, the trade association of the IT and engineering staffing and solutions industry in the US. This compares to a 0.1% increase in total nonfarm jobs in the US.

Year over year, IT jobs rose by 4.1% since September 2014, adding 195,000 workers for a total of almost 5.0 million jobs.

Engineering jobs edged up only slightly into positive territory, up 0.02% in September from the previous month and 0.7% year over year, adding 18,500 engineering workers since September 2014 for a total of more than 2.5 million US engineering jobs.

“Despite the less than robust jobs report this month, IT continued its steady climb in September. It appears we will reach the impressive milestone of 5 million workers employed in IT in the US within the next couple of months,” said TechServe Alliance CEO Mark Roberts. “While IT employment continues to outperform the overall job market, engineering employment growth remains anemic barely registering any growth.”
