IT employment slips

September 12, 2007

Employment in the information technology sector fell by 5,200 workers in August, or 0.1%, the National Association of Computer Consultant Businesses reported today. There were almost 3.7 million IT workers in August, 2,000 more than in August 2006.

"There are always small month-to-month variances in IT employment levels attributable in part to changes in hiring and separation activity within particular industries as well as the normal movement of IT workers," said NACCB CEO Mark Roberts. "More notable is that overall IT employment is essentially unchanged from a year ago despite strong demand for IT professionals. We attribute the absence of growth to a shortage of qualified IT workers."
