IT, Finance/Accounting Confidence Up

Confidence among information technology and finance/accounting workers improved in the fourth quarter, according to two new reports from Technisource and The Mergis Group.

The Technisource IT employee confidence index rose to a reading of 58.2 in the fourth quarter of 2010, up 7.6 points from the third-quarter reading.

Technisource, a division of SFN Group Inc. (NYSE: SFN) that provides IT staffing, reported the survey for its index found:

*Thirty-seven percent of IT workers believe the economy is getting stronger, up 20 percent from the third quarter.
*Forty-nine percent are confident in their ability to find a new job, up six percentage points.
*Seventy-eight percent believe it is not likely they will lose the jobs, up 13 percentage points.
*However, 32 percent of IT workers said they were likely to look for a new job, down from 38 percent in the third quarter.

The Technisource survey included 3,701 employed adults in the U.S. that work in IT jobs.

In addition, The Mergis Group, a division of SFN Group that provides finance/accounting staffing, reported its accounting and finance employee confidence index rose to a reading of 56.1 in the fourth quarter, up 2.2 points from the third quarter's reading.

The survey for The Mergis Group's index found:

*Fifty-one percent of finance and accounting workers believe there are fewer jobs available, a nine percentage point drop from the third quarter.
*Half of finance and accounting workers are confident in their ability to find a new job, up six percentage points.
*Seventy-eight percent are confident in their job security, up from 74 percent in the third quarter.
*Forty-four percent are likely to make a job transition in the next 12 months, up 14 percentage points from the third quarter.

The Mergis Group's survey included a sample of 3,701 employed adults in the U.S. who work in finance and accounting positions.
