Information technology employment topped 4 million with an increase of 5,000 jobs in April, according to the IT employment index released last week by TechServe Alliance. In fact, due to upward revisions of data previously reported by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, IT jobs actually topped the 4 million mark in February.

According to a monthly index of IT jobs developed and published by TechServe Alliance, the number of IT jobs rose 0.12 percent in April to 4,009,900, up almost 136,000 jobs from April 2010. This was the 16th consecutive monthly increase

“I am heartened by the continued strength of IT employment topping 4 million jobs for the first time since November 2008,” said Mark Roberts, CEO of TechServe Alliance. “While a somewhat arbitrary threshold, it is an important psychological milestone putting us well along the path toward surpassing the previous all-time record for IT employment in the near future."
