The four-week moving average for seasonally adjusted initial unemployment claims rose to 445,000, up 5,000, or 1.1%, from the previous week's average of 440,000, the U.S. Department of Labor reported. The effects of Hurricane Gustav in Louisiana helped push the number of claims higher, according to news reports.
