How do managers wish to be perceived?

How do managers want to be perceived? A survey released by staffing firm Addison Group found that 63 percent would like to be perceived as mentors. It also found 35 percent would like to be perceived as teachers, 34 percent as supervisors and 34 percent as coaches.

Among the age groups, millennials were twice as likely to hope to be perceived as a best friend to their direct reports compared to boomers and Gen X.

Among workers, ability to give honest feedback was cited as an important qualify for managers with 63 percent of workers saying so. In addition, workers cited trust, 56 percent, and being able to make time, 37 percent.

The survey included 1,006 working Americans born between 1946 and 1995. It was conducted for Addison by global insights firm Kelton.
