Healthcare sector top for IT job growth, survey finds

Healthcare ranks as the top industry for information technology job growth in 2014, according to a survey of staffing professionals conducted by DiscoverOrg, a provider of IT sales and marketing intelligence tools. Three-quarters of the respondents, 75.5 percent, said healthcare would see the greatest growth in IT jobs, followed by software development (52.9 percent) and banking/financial services (27.5 percent).

Additional survey findings include:

  • The top three emerging IT titles in 2014 were mobile developer/mobile app developer, business intelligence developer and big data engineers/architects.
  • “Reaching the right person” was the number one challenge listed, selected by 45 percent of respondents, followed by “identifying open opportunities” (20 percent) and “identifying a company’s key players” (13 percent).
  • The positions or areas with the highest turnover rates were sales, IT staffing, software developers and networking professionals; C-level executives saw the lowest turnover rate.
  • 47 percent of respondents said the cost of placing an IT executive was $10,000 or above, while 20 percent placed the cost at $50,000 or above.

The survey was conducted in December 2013 and included 102 IT executives.
