Healthcare job postings on HEALTHeCAREERS Network increased 4 percent in the third quarter from the prior quarter with 44,791 opportunities advertised, according to the online job board’s Q3 Healthcare Jobs Snapshot. 

Physician and surgeon roles accounted for the greatest percentage of job postings: 49 percent of total postings at 21,868 jobs. Nurses, nurse practitioners and physician assistants accounted for 28 percent of the jobs posted.

“Not only is healthcare an important issue for the public right now, it is also at the forefront for healthcare employers looking to hire so they can meet the rapidly growing needs of hospitals, clinics and primary care practices,” said Tricia Pattee, director of product management for HEALTHeCAREERS Network. “We are seeing employers post more open positions each quarter.”

In the third quarter, the job board listed 21,868 physician/surgeon jobs, 2,603 nurses/nurse practitioners/physician assistants jobs, and 533 healthcare IT jobs.

Data for the snapshot was collected from July 1 to Sept. 30, 2013, and is comprised of 44,791 healthcare and medical job openings placed by 3,093 hospital and healthcare organizations.
