Hays revenue up 10%, announces U.S. plans

Hays PLC, one of the world's largest staffing firms, reported revenue rose 10% to GBP2.69 billion (US$4.05 billion) in its fiscal year ended June 30. The company also announced plans to enter the U.S. market with an office in New Jersey within the next year.

Excluding the effects of currency, Hays reported revenue rose 5%.

Profit attributable to equity holders fell 91.2% to GBP9.3 million (US$14.0 million). However, excluding exceptional items, it fell only 57.9%. Exceptional items include GBP29.0 million in legal costs and a fine from alleged breaches of U.K. competition law between October 2004 and November 2005. The fine is under appeal. In addition, the exceptional items include restructuring costs of GBP12.4 million.
