Half of small businesses to hire more employees, TriNet survey finds

May 13, 2014

Small-business owners in the U.S. have positive outlooks for the remainder of the year, according to the TriNet Group Inc.’s (NYSE: TNET) Small Business Confidence Survey. Seventy-four percent of respondents strongly or somewhat agree that their businesses will grow their revenue in 2014. Additionally, 50 percent of respondents plan to hire more employees this year, and 35 percent ranked hiring qualified staff among the three most important issues that concern them.

“It’s encouraging to see that small-business owners are investing in the future of their companies, including hiring new employees,” said TriNet President and CEO Burton Goldfield. “Getting great people on their team as well as managing expenses are two challenges for all small-business owners.”

The survey found financial issues such as getting new business, managing expenses, and cash flow are top concerns for small-business owners at 51 percent, 49 percent and 48 percent of respondents, respectively.

TriNet is one of the largest professional employer organizations. The survey was conducted online within the United States between Jan. 20 and Jan. 30, 2014. It included 206 U.S. owners of small businesses with 10 to 49 employees.
