H-1B Visa Cap Reached on Monday

June 13, 2012

U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services can accept up to 65,000 H-1B visa petitions per federal fiscal year, and the agency reported it reached that cap on June 11 for this year. H-1B visas are used to bring in employees with college degrees and special skills — such as technology workers.

The agency began accepting applications in April.

Previous years have seen more robust demand for H-1B slots. In the 2008 federal fiscal year, the cap was reached in one day.
