Greater Percentage of Firms to Hire in Q4

September 05, 2012

A greater percentage of professional employers plan to hire in the fourth quarter than in the third quarter, according to survey results in the fourth-quarter Robert Half professional employment report released today by Robert Half International Inc. (NYSE: RHI).

Seventeen percent of U.S. executives said they will add full-time, professional-level staff in the fourth quarter of 2012, according to the survey in the fourth-quarter report. Another 5 percent signaled they will make personnel reductions, resulting in a net 12 percent who plan to hire. More than three quarters (77 percent) of executives said they anticipate making no change to the size of their teams in the next three months.

The net 12 percent who plan to hire in the fourth quarter is up from the third quarter when 5 percent of executives planned to add staff and 5 percent planned to cut staff for a net of zero.

The fourth-quarter report is based on telephone interviews with more than 4,000 executives across a number of industries.
