Ghana - 70 Illegal recruitment agencies found operating in Ghana

30 November 2015

Over 70 recruitment agencies are operating illegally throughout Ghana, according to Nana Baah Abu Okae, Chairman of the Ghana Association of Private Agencies (GHAPEA).

In an interview with the Ghanaian Times, Abu Okae said these illegal recruiting agencies take advantage of job seekers, often leading them to money troubles as the jobseekers pay money and receive no jobs. Abu Okae plans to implement a code of ethics to his department.

“These codes of ethics and working standards will help us purge the system of the illegal operators in the country,” Abu Okae said.

According to Abu Okae, only 19 private recruitment agencies were registered and licensed by the Labour Department to operate in the country.

Officials in the Labour Department plan to step up monitoring mechanisms to halt illegal recruitment agencies activities.
