Germany – Strong demand for skilled workers

20 November 2014

There was an increase of +11% in the number of construction and skilled trade jobs across Germany in the 12 months to October 2014, according to the Adecco Job Index.

Demand for skilled workers outpaced the rest of the job market; with advertisements for skilled trade workers and construction workers increasing by +23% during the 12 months to October 2014, compared with total job advertisement growth of +8%.

Petra Reinholz, Managing Director of Adecco Germany, commented: “This positive trend is most likely as a result of increased house building, which also explains the increased demand for trade services.”

An analysis of the jobs advertised over the past 12 months found that more than a third of the nearly 200,000 vacancies were from recruitment agencies. The Industrial sector accounted for 17% of all adverts, followed by the construction industry which advertised for more than 25,000 positions (12% of all adverts).

The greatest demand for craftsmen and builders was in Bavaria, Baden-Württemberg, and North Rhine-Westphalia, which combined accounted for 56% of all job offers. In contrast, the fewest jobs for skilled tradesmen were in Berlin and Hamburg.
