Georgia posts highest state jobless rate

Georgia posted the highest unemployment rate among all states in September at 7.9 percent, according to data released today by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. Mississippi and the District of Columbia followed, both at 7.7 percent, while Rhode Island posted a 7.6 percent unemployment rate.

North Dakota again posted the lowest unemployment rate in September at 2.8 percent.

The national jobless rate declined to 5.9 percent from August and was 1.3 percentage points lower than in September 2013.
