Georgia arrests two staffing firm owners for back taxes, penalties

April 17, 2015

Georgia staffing firm co-owners were arrested on charges related to unpaid taxes, interest and penalties, according to the Georgia Department of Revenue.

Linda Maddox, also known as Linda Naylor, and co-owner Delayne Sproles, owned and operated temporary staffing firms Temporary Resource Personnel LLC and TRP Partners LLC. The businesses failed to pay $291,969 in Georgia withholding taxes to the state between 2009 and 2014, and now the amount is $373,351 with penalties and interest, according to the department.

“They were taking withholding out of their employees paychecks, but they weren’t remitting that money to the state,” said Nick Genesi, director of communications for the Department of Revenue. “They were keeping it for themselves.”

Sproles left the business in 2013. She turned herself in Wednesday and was charged with unlawful conversion of funds collected for the benefit of the state, according to The Daily Citizen.

Maddox, who turned herself in March 24 and was released on a $5,000 bond, has been cooperative with the investigation, Genesi said.

Georgia Department of Revenue agents also arrested Maddox’s husband, Julian Naylor, March 18 on charges of influencing a witness.

“In the process of our investigation and speaking with relevant parties, we learned that Julian Naylor was threatening relatives and business neighbors of his wife Linda Naylor,” said Chief Josh Waites, Office of Special Investigations.
