Freelancer.com says WooCommerce jobs posted fastest growth in Q2

WooCommerce jobs were the fastest-growing job category on Freelancer.com in the second quarter when compared to the first quarter, according to a new report from the firm. WooCommerce is an ecommerce plugin for WordPress.

Overall, the number of “good jobs” posted on freelancer.com was up 9.3% in the second quarter to 356,876, the company reported. “Good jobs” are those which have been filtered for spam, advertising, self-promotion, reposts or are otherwise unlikely to be filled.

The fastest-growing jobs in the second quarter included:

  • WooCommerce: up 750.4%, to 1,097 from 129
  • Data processing: up 67.4% to 13,179 from 7,872
  • Report writing: up 66.2%, to 6,717 from 4,042
  • Excel: up 61.2% to 19,948 from 12,371
  • Data entry: up 47.3%, to 23,242 from 15,776

Mobile is a core focus for businesses. The report found Google’s increasing emphasis on mobile Web led to a surge in native app adoption and engagement. This, along with the gathering market for wearables, resulted in substantial jobs growth across both the iOS and Android ecosystems, according to the report. This quarter, Android exceeded Apple with both its number of jobs and growth, increasing 24.2% to 18,431 jobs. However, Apple iOS, including iPad apps and the newly released Apple Watch, still increased 16.4% to 17,378 jobs.

Social media monetization is evolving towards video content and ecommerce. The report found Facebook advertising jobs decreased 11.9% to 7,459 jobs while video services jobs increased 22.8% to 3,634 jobs and videography jobs increased 18.5% to 1,122 jobs.

Data science recognized as a core capability for businesses that want to grow. Many data science jobs posted on Freelancer in the second quarter included data warehousing, big data, scraping, data mining, data processing, Excel, machine learning and data entry. Data entry jobs increased 47.3% to 23,242 jobs, Excel Jobs increased 61.2% to 19,948 jobs, and data processing jobs rose 67.4% to 13,179 jobs. Companies with limited or no in-house data science capability sought out freelancers to perform statistical analysis — up 46.9% to 1,196 jobs — and consequently demand for expertise in statistical tools R Programming , SAS, and SPSS also grew substantially, up a combined 47.3% to 713 jobs. Free opensource database MySQL increased 14.7% to 17,503 jobs while mathematical manipulation programs Matlab and Mathematica increased 36.5% to 2,901 jobs.
