France – Agency worker numbers continue to rise

The number of agency workers in France increased by 4.6% to 619,800 during August 2015, compared with the same month last year, according to figures from French job centre Pôle Emploi. Compared with July 2015 the number of agency workers decreased by 1.8%.

The number of agency workers across France has increased every month since December 2014, when compared with the same month the previous year.

The Services sector reported the strongest rise in agency workers during August, an increase of 7.6% compared with a year ago. This was followed by the Industrial sector, which reported growth of 5.3% in agency worker numbers. The Construction sector reported a decrease of 2.9% in agency worker numbers over the same period.

In terms of penetration, the sector with the highest number of agency workers as a proportion of the entire workforce, was the Industrial sector (8.5%), followed by the Construction sector (6.6%), and the Services sector (1.9%).

Across all three sectors, the penetration rate of agency workers was 3.6%.

Of France’s 21 regions, 19 reported an increase in agency workers numbers in August 2015, compared with the same month last year. The strongest growth was reported in Limousin (16.5%); followed by Franche-Comté (13.6%), and Bourgogne (12.5%).

The only decreases were reported in Champagne-Ardenne (4.2%) and Ille-de-France (1.5%).
