Firms cutting and adding workers

Cummins Inc. announced layoffs, including temporary workers. Banner Thunderbird Medical Center in Glendale AZ to hire 800 workers.

The Cummins engine plant in Rocky Mount NC laid off 210 temporary workers along with 180 full-time employees, the Rocky Mount Telegram newspaper reported Wednesday.

The Banner Thunderbird Medical Center plans to hire 800 workers by 2011 as it nears completion of a $289 million patient tower in Glendale AZ, the Phoenix Business Journal reported. The hospital plans to hire 350 people through the end of this year, according to the report.
