Federal bill would require paid sick leave

May 20, 2009

Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro, D-CT, introduced the Healthy Families Act on Monday that would require employers with more than 15 employees to provide workers with one hour of paid sick leave for every 30 hours worked. Workers could earn up to 56 hours of paid sick leave, according to DeLauro's office.

According to the text of the law, workers would begin earning sick time when they start a job and could begin using it after 60 days.

The bill's number is H.R. 2460.
