The Federal Deposit Insurance Corp.'s new budget approved Tuesday call for approximately 1,640 new employees that will mostly be hired on a temporary basis. The agency will hire the workers directly, not through staffing firms. And the lengths of assignments will run between two and four years.

The workers will primarily assist with bank closings, bank examinations and other bank supervisory activities.
