ExecuNet: Uptick in Executive Job Creation

October 17, 2012

ExecuNet's Job Creation Index ticked up seven points in September, a rebound from the low level reached last month. Recruiters report that one in five companies are now looking to add executive-level positions in the next six months.

Additionally, an ExecuNet survey suggests executive job applicants should follow some clear guidelines when submitting job applications, developing an online profile and networking with recruiters.

The survey’s do’s and don’ts:

  1. 70 percent of recruiters may pass over a resume if it doesn’t include a cover letter.
  2. The majority of recruiters recommend limiting work experience on a resume to 15 to 20 years.
  3. 62 percent of recruiters say it’s crucial to have a current, professional headshot on online profiles.
  4. Job candidates should give a realistic range when asked about salary expectations.
  5. Executives who want to build relationships with recruiters should come bearing information. Only 25 percent of recruiters would network with executives who can’t provide some reciprocal value.
