European unemployment edges up

Eurostat on Tuesday reported the unemployment rate in the European Union edged up to 6.8% in May, compared with 6.7% in April. The European Union's unemployment rate was 7.2% in May 2007.

For the 15 countries that use the euro, unemployment was at 7.2% in May, unchanged from April and down from 7.5% in May 2007.

Eurostat is the statistical office of the European Union.
