April 03, 2014

Employment in the U.S. non-manufacturing sector grew in March at a faster rate than February, according to the Institute for Supply Management’s non-manufacturing index released today.

ISM’s non-manufacturing business activity index rose in March to a reading of 53.1 from February’s reading of 51.6. Readings above 50 indicate growth.

The employment portion of the index returned to growth with a reading of 53.6 in March, up from February’s reading of 47.5 percent. February’s reading marked the first time the employment portion of the index contracted in 25 months.
