Eight states post jobless rates above 11%

Eight states posted unemployment rates above 11.0% in June, with Michigan reporting the highest unemployment rate among all states at 15.2%, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported today.

Rhode Island registered the second-highest jobless rate among states in June at 12.4% followed by Oregon, 12.2%; South Carolina, 12.1%; Nevada, 12.0%; California, 11.6%; Ohio, 11.1%; and North Carolina, 11.0%.

The state with the lowest jobless rate in June was North Dakota at 4.2%.

Year-over-year, unemployment rates were higher in all 50 states and the District of Columbia in June.
