Economic leading indexes fall

Both The Conference Board's U.S. leading index of economic indicators and the Economic Cycle Research Institute's weekly leading index fell, the organizations announced today.

The Conference Board reported its U.S. leading index fell 0.3% in February and now stands at 135.0. Based on revised data, the index fell 0.4% in January and 0.1% in December.

Meanwhile, the growth rate ECRI's forward-looking gauge of the U.S. economy for the week ended March 14 contracted 10.4%. ECRI's weekly leading index level fell to 130.8 from 132.1 in the prior period. The index measures weekly changes while the growth rate is derived from a four-week moving average.
