EEOC files suit against Randstad in methadone case

November 05, 2015

The US Equal Employment Opportunity Commission on Tuesday announced it filed a lawsuit against Randstad that claims the staffing firm refused to hire a recovering drug addict enrolled in a methadone treatment program.

April Cox applied in January 2015 with Randstad in Timonium, Md., for a vacant production laborer position, according to the EEOC. However, the agency claims the company did not hire Cox after she revealed she was in a methadone program.

“Ms. Cox was well qualified for the production laborer job and has worked hard to overcome her addiction,” said EEOC Philadelphia District Director Spencer Lewis Jr. “Randstad violated federal law when it ignored her qualifications and refused to hire her simply because she is a recovering drug addict.”

In a statement, Randstad said it does not comment on active litigation.
