July 12, 2012

Are performance reviews effective? Chief financial officers say yes, but workers say not as much, according to a survey by Accountemps, a division of Robert Half International Inc. (NYSE: RHI).

The survey found that 94 percent of CFOs said formal performance reviews are either “somewhat effective” or “very effective” in helping employees improve their performance. Only 5 percent found they were “somewhat ineffective” or “very ineffective” and 1 percent didn’t know.

In comparison, only 62 percent of workers found performance review effective of somewhat effective. And 31 percent of workers found them somewhat ineffective or very ineffective.

The survey was conducted by an independent research firm and is based on interviews with 1,400 CFOs and as well as responses 422 working adults employed in office environments across the United States.
